Connexions: Staff moves cause Teesside job losses

Connexions Tees Valley has announced 54 head office redundancies as a result of staff transfers to local authorities. Unison says it will use "every legal avenue" to fight the decision.

The organisation has been owned by five local authorities since 2002.

It will now be divided into five parts, with delivery staff in each area transferred to local authorities in April next year, resulting in redundancies.

Negotiations are under way between Connexions, local authorities and Unison to minimise the job losses.

Unison regional officer John McDade said: "Seven partnerships will disband in April 2007, but only Teesside is making staff redundant."
