Cooke became chief executive of the Northumberland partnership after working in careers guidance for a decade. He said: "I feel I've done as much as I can do for Connexions." Northumberland Guidance is in the process of expanding by acquiring a range of adult careers-guidance companies.
The careers-guidance organisation is not a subcontractor for Connexions, but it does work with Jobcentre Plus and delivers services to young people.
It also provides basic skills, counselling and recruitment programmes in the Northumberland area.
Northumberland was the last of the 47 Connexions partnerships to go live nationally. It began delivering the service to local 13- to 19-year-olds on 1 April 2003.
