Connexions: VT Group acquires Connexions centres

The deal, worth 2.5m, also puts VT Group in charge of parts of West Yorkshire and West London's Connexions services. VT Group now runs eight of England's 47 Connexions partnerships.

Allister McGowan, chief executive of VT Careers Management, part of the company's education and skills division, said the acquisition would not mean a reduction in frontline services, but staffing in the partnerships may be "rationalised".

He described the acquisition as a "leap of faith" in the careers guidance system, despite uncertainty over its future in the run-up to the youth green paper.
