Connexions: Government to rethink funding for transitions

Draft guidance produced by the Department for Education and Skills (DfES) seen by Young People Now says the department is prepared to meet "reasonable transition costs" incurred by Connexions partnerships and councils in the run-up to transferring Connexions services to local authorities in March 2008.

It gives authorities the deadline of the end of next month to give transition cost estimates for the coming year and the same deadline next year to apply for funding for the following year. The Government first said it would assume that authorities that do not meet the deadline will not need support, but has agreed to a rethink after members of the DfES Transition Group said this was unreasonable.
