Connexions: Councils get support for children's trusts switch

The government money, to be split between the local authorities in each partnership area, is intended to meet the costs incurred through the transition.

Connexions organisations have welcomed the support for local authorities but are pushing for more help towards the costs incurred by Connexions in the process.

Partnerships have been invited to bid for a share of an undisclosed amount of money for "reasonable costs". But they can only bid for costs incurred before March 2008, the deadline for the transfer of services.

Jon Richards, senior national officer for Unison's education workforce unit, which is represented on the transition group, said: "It is nonsense that you're expected to bid for funding when you don't know what the amount available is."
