These days, a young person can still go into a Connexions office near their home or anywhere in the country and be fairly sure what to expect. Over the next two years, though, they are likely to find things a little more complicated. When seeking guidance at a Connexions centre, they might find themselves directed to the local council instead. And on moving to another town, they may find a different system altogether.
With responsibility for Connexions services passing from 47 specialist partnerships to 149 local authorities in 2008, young people across the country will see an increasing variety of organisations offering guidance - even within a single area.
