Common assessment: Framework will go online in London

An electronic version of the common assessment framework (CAF) is to go live next month.

The e-CAF system is to be launched by the London Borough of TowerHamlets, one of four councils in England piloting the approach.

John Galloway, advisory teacher for information and communicationtechnology and personalised learning at the borough, said that e-CAF wasbetter geared to the reality of information sharing and multi-agencyworking because professionals often find it hard to squeeze meetingsinto busy schedules. He said: "This will make it easier. They won't haveto meet when all that's required is a note that takes five minutes towrite."

The framework would still need to be printed out and signed off by thefamily, he added.

Tower Hamlets have also developed their own electronic version of theframework on a spreadsheet.
