Didn't I respond to something on the Common Assessment Framework (CAF) a few months ago? Last autumn, the Government consulted on the process to be followed when undertaking an initial assessment of a child. This paper is a detailed document for practitioners and is intended to be used in some local authority pilot areas from April 2005, and then issued in final form for national implementation from April 2006.
Remind me what the CAF is. An initial assessment tool framed within a nationally standardised approach to assessing the needs of a child and deciding how those needs should be met. It consists of a common process, a common format for recording findings, and a common format for sharing the information gleaned from an assessment.
