Children's Services: Organisations join forces on initiatives

The Department of Education and Skills must provide funding to boost leadership, say organisations representing senior figures in children's services which have joined forces to place children higher up the Government's agenda.

The Association of Directors of Social Services (ADSS) and Confederation of Education and Children's Service Managers (Confed), the organisation that includes The Association of Directors of Children's Services (Adecs), are planning a programme of joint policy initiatives.

David Hawker, chair of Adecs, said the priorities would be to influence government decisions on workforce development and leadership development. He said the organisations had already secured a joint representative on the Children's Workforce Development Council.

From this week new directors of children's services will be eligible for membership of Confed/Adecs and the ADSS, a move which was agreed in principle last year (Children Now, 28 April-4 May, 2004).
