Children's services: Association reveals key policy areas

The recently formed Association of Directors of Children's Services has unveiled details of the policy areas it will focus on as well as its key committee chairs.

Seven policy committees have been created, including one on resourcesand sustainability, which is chaired by South Tyneside Council'schildren services director Kim Bromley-Derry.

It is seen as a key committee, leading the association's work with theOffice of the Schools' Commissioner and the Schools Adjudicator. As partof his role Bromley-Derry will nominate association representatives tosit on the Department for Education and Skills' education and childrenservices and school funding implementation groups.

Other policy committees include: health, care and additional needs,chaired by Ann Baxter, corporate director of children, education andsocial care, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council; families, communities andyoung people, which is chaired by Hertfordshire County Council'schildren, schools and families director, John Harris; and educationalachievement, chaired by Steve Beynon, director of children's services,Isle of Wight Council.
