Children's Secretary opens specialist school in Tyneside

Children's Secretary Ed Balls shows off his puppetry skills to seven-year-old Chloe Biggins on a visit to open a specialist school in Wallsend, North Tyneside.

The £10m school will cater for 130 two- to 19-year-olds who have severe, profound and multiple learning difficulties or autism spectrum disorders. Beacon Hill School was funded by North Tyneside Council and its facilities include a hydrotherapy pool, sensory rooms, a trampoline area for rebound therapy and a music suite. There is also a business and enterprise suite for secondary and sixth-form pupils. Head teacher Helen Jones said: "The opening of our new building by the Children's Secretary marks an exciting phase in the development of Beacon Hill. We are looking forward to an extremely bright future."
