Children's rights: Campaigners slam lack of progress

A coalition of children's campaigners has slammed the Government for not making significant progress in addressing children's rights.

The Children's Rights Alliance for England, which comprises 320organisations committed to children's rights, found "significantprogress" had only been made on 16 of the 78 recommendations made by theUnited Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child in October 2002.

According to the alliance's report, State of Children's Rights inEngland 2005, published this week, no progress has been made inproviding or sponsoring training courses on children's rights forprofessionals in England.

The report also found there was still no strategy to reduce child deathsfrom violence and that there had been no review of the child protectionsystem from the child's point of view.
