Joint working - Campaigners seek to bolster rights

On the 20th anniversary of the UNCRC, campaigners argue more must be done to protect children's rights.

This Friday (20 November) marks the 20th anniversary of the creation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC).

Despite signing the convention 18 years ago, the UK government is yet to incorporate the convention into law. Liberal Democrat peer and Unicef UK Committee board member Baroness Walmsley was on 19 November set to renew pressure on the government by introducing her children's rights private members bill in the House of Lords.

Just as the Human Rights Act incorporated the European Convention on Human Rights into UK law, Walmsley wants a children's rights act to help fully embrace the UN convention.
