The job of a head teacher is highly complex. Managing and leading in thecontext of increased autonomy for schools, complex political agendas andincreasingly high expectations is enormously onerous andchallenging.
But if this results in the classroom not being head teachers' toppriority, this will divorce management and leadership from theday-to-day realities of teaching and make staff think management doesnot understand the pressures they face.
In what other profession does the opportunity exist for the leadpractitioner to not put into practice or maintain the skills for whichthey were qualified and yet still manage the work of those who do?
