The trust's annual survey of childcare costs found that the bill for atypical full-time nursery place for a child under two years old rose by8 between 2005 and 2006. This means the cost of childcare isrising faster than inflation and compares to people's average ofearnings of 447 per week.
The cost of nursery care for children aged two or over in England alsorose from 134 in 2005 to 140 in 2006. In Wales, the costof nursery bills for children aged two or over went from 122 to126 in the same period.
Alison Garnham, joint chief executive of the trust, said: "Parentscannot afford to bear the burden of increasing childcare costs alone.Funding needs to be further improved."
