Holiday care costs go up 10 per cent

Early Years
The cost of holiday childcare in Britain has risen by almost 10 per cent since 2007, according to a Daycare Trust survey.

The charity's seventh annual childcare costs survey, published today (16 July), found typical weekly childcare costs had risen by as much as 20 per cent in some areas. Despite this, nearly three-quarters of family information services and more than half of councils believe holiday childcare provision is insufficient.

The East of England has the highest average weekly childcare costs at £105.04, followed closely by South East England at £101.03. The cheapest childcare is in inner London, where the average cost is £68.25 per week.

The Daycare Trust is calling on the government to subsidise holiday activities for all children, especially disadvantaged and disabled children, as a step towards making services free in the future.
