CWDC is an employer-led organisation. It acts as a partner and critical friend of the government, helping to implement the Every Child Matters programme. It works closely with the Department for Children, Schools and Families to determine the direction of workforce reforms and to identify skill shortages.
The organisation has a number of roles, including its work as a sector skills body, leading children's workforce reform and as a funding body for early years professionals. CWDC also helps to co-ordinate the Children's Workforce Network, a strategic alliance of 11 organisations committed to creating and supporting a world-class children's workforce in England.
