What did they do? Children and parents in Canterbury are getting in shape thanks to a healthy living programme for all the family. Mend 2-4: Mind, Exercise, Nutrition ...Do it!, is a project that gets families with children aged between two and four learning about how to have the healthiest start in life.

There are 350 Mend projects around the UK, which are part of an initiative to reduce childhood obesity.

How does it work? Children, parents and carers take part in a 90-minute session every week, which is based on fun, health-led activities that include active play, a nutritious snack time and a workshop for parents and carers. Mend 2-4 programme manager and active play leader Lesley Ogle says: "The Mend 2-4 programme is great fun and really beneficial for all families with children."

Who's doing it? Mend 2-4 was developed by a group of experts at the Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital and University College London Institute of Child Health. The programme is being delivered by a team from the Riverside Centre in Canterbury.
