The study, conducted by the Anti-Bullying Alliance in partnership with research group BMRB, is based on a survey of more than 1,000 seven- to 18-year olds. It is being published to tie in with this year's Anti-Bullying Week, which has "the bystander" as its theme.
Charity Beatbullying is publishing a separate report showing the link between bullying and truancy levels, and will launch BBSports on 20 November, which aims to tackle the causes of bullying by developing young people's teamwork skills and self-esteem.
Alliance manager Gill Frances said: "Anti-Bullying Week 2006 signifies a massive commitment across the country by people who want to stop and prevent bullying."
