A mentoring programme based in Derbyshire.

Project: Buddy Plus+

Funding: £25,000 from Derbyshire County Council

Aim: To prevent offending and boost young people's skills and confidence

Young people experiencing literacy problems in Derbyshire are being helped by a mentoring programme. The Buddy Plus+ project is run by independent partnership Read On - Write Away!, which is overseen by Derbyshire County Council.

Volunteer mentors work with young people aged eight to 18 who have either offended or are at risk of offending, to help them gain confidence, support them with homework and reading and writing skills to help them throughout their life. The young people are given the option to attend the course by their caseworker at the youth offending team.
