The Government is consulting on huge changes to social care inspections that could see some providers inspected less often.

What's happening to the inspection of children's social services?

A lot - and it's all tied into the reduction from 10 inspectorates tofour. In addition, there's a general move across the regulatory systemsto make inspections leaner.

What does that mean in practice? Well, we have the Children Act 2004'schildren's services joint inspection framework already in place. Thenthere's the forthcoming merger of the Commission for Social CareInspection (CSCI) with Ofsted and the Adult Learning Inspectorate, andalterations expected in the education, school and social servicesinspection frameworks.

Now the Department for Education and Skills has published a consultationpaper on changes to the regulatory framework for children's socialservices.
