Are adult social services modelling themselves on children's socialservices? Um, I don't think so, but the two volumes of statutory andbest-practice guidance just published on the role of the director ofadult social services (DASS) keep referring to the role of the newdirector of children's services (DCS). And one of the concerns expressedduring the development of a more child-centred role was the growingdivision between adult and children's social care.
Are the roles the same for different age groups? There are some broadsimilarities. But the issue is really one of parity in arrangementsbetween the roles. Additionally, the Department of Health intends tointroduce legislation requiring the appointment of a lead member foradult services to complement the existing lead member for children'sservices.
