In April last year, I'd been to a dental appointment and was walking back along the canal with my girlfriend when she saw someone bobbing up and down in the water. I ran over to the canal side, took off my jacket and shoes and dived in. It was a women and child.
It was difficult to swim because the locks were opening and the current was strong. I got the child out first as the lady kept pushing me away.
Then I dived back in and got the lady out.
Later I received the Young Lifesaver of the Year Award for my actions.
