I won the County Cadet of the Year and then travelled to Oxfordshire to take part with 43 other contestants in the national awards. We had to undergo assessments over two days in formal interviews, a written project, team games, uniform inspection and attend a cocktail party. I received a gold lanyard for my uniform, a trophy, a shield and a certificate.
I am a cadet leader for Derby Combined Cadets. I have stuck with it and enjoyed it: it has given me a lot of confidence, skills and friends. I want to stay on until I'm 21 and then become a midwife.
