After taking a Level 2 qualification, it is recommended you move onto an NVQ or VRQ Level 3 in youth work. Level 3 qualifications enable youth workers to move beyond interaction with young people and to begin to carry out activities on their own initiative, as well as training them to be ready to supervise other people, lead projects and develop the organisation they work for. There are no exams for the NVQ and one for the VRQ; instead, entrants are expected to demonstrate their skills over a period of time and in a variety of ways. Taking the Level 3 qualification can lead to a professional level qualification such as a degree, which would give you professional youth worker status. Good luck.
