Childcare, early years and play: the route to qualification

8 mins read Early Years
There are a number of routes available to people beginning a career in the chidren's sector. For 16- to 19-year-olds, colleges offer a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) or Scottish Vocational Qualification (SVQ) Childcare, Learning and Development at either Level 2 or 3.

This provides students with a technical certificate, practical experience, a paediatric first-aid certificate, plus numeracy and literacy skills, all of which make them attractive candidates for employment.

Those entering the workforce who are over 19 should consider studying a Level 2 qualification, as this allows new entrants to the early years workforce to work under supervision within numerous children's services. Such courses include the Council for Awards in Children's Care and Education (CACHE) Level 2 Certificate in Childcare and Education, Level 2 Certificate in Children's Care, Learning and Development, Level 2 Certificate in Pre-School Practice, and Level 2 Certificate in Early Years Care and Education (Welsh Medium).
