Best Practice: Family Turnaround An empowering approach to help transform lives

1 min read
When Nicola began attending an Essex-based children's centre, run by 4Children, she was struggling.

She had been experimenting with drugs and had been cautioned after being caught in possession. She was self-harming and her self-esteem and confidence were at rock bottom. She was estranged from her family and out of work. She and her baby faced a future living in poverty. Today, Nicola and her child are flourishing. She has qualifications and is working, and her relationship with her daughter is strong.

She was introduced to the centre when she was helped and supported by staff to set up a local support group for potentially vulnerable children and their parents called "Something Cute". Staff helped Nicola through the various requirements such as how to set up funding and insurance. She has now rebuilt her relationship with her family and is a local champion, providing guidance to local teenage parents and young people.
