Project: Respect Young People’s Programme

Purpose: To tackle child and adolescent to parent violence and abuse through a whole-family approach

Funding: Part of more than £1m in Home Office funding for programmes to prevent domestic abuse across Greater Manchester. Additional funding came from Greater Manchester’s deputy mayor and four local authorities. In 2023/24, local authorities funded the Respect programme themselves

Background

Child and adolescent to parent violence and abuse is where a child or young person is repeatedly abusive towards a parent or carer. It can include physical, emotional or economic abuse and may include damage property and harm to other family members. However, research suggests many families refuse to report it.
