Recently I attended a seminar on working with children in care.
I don't go to many conferences but there are times when a programme willgrab you and it's worth going to hear what's going on beyond your officewalls.
Sometimes you end up disappointed and light of pocket, but not thistime.
I particularly wanted to hear Susanna Cheal of The Who Cares? Trustspeaking on improving long-term educational and stability outcomes forlooked-after children.
I struggle sometimes when the worth of a child in care is measuredthrough their educational achievement. I know from working with some ofthe kids in our service, that they thrive better out of school than init for a plethora of reasons such as bullying or the child's needs notbeing handled appropriately. But I haven't heard many solutions to thisissue that make sense.
