Picture the scene. Two middle-aged, male social workers hanging on to each other, doubled up with hysterical laughter. Tears in their eyes, they wave a piece of paper, the source of their amusement.
What was the joke? Not a lot to laugh at in child protection sometimes.
A new directive on work/life balance from above? Guess again. Yes, you've got it. It was a job advert for our team, designed by an external company, chock full of soundbites and snappy logos. "Sounds fantastic - I wouldn't mind working there," I laughed.
I've noticed recently in the jobs pages that the advertisers are getting smarter. Recruitment and retention are urgent issues facing the social care sector. The papers are stuffed with adverts. So new and innovative ways of catching the public's eye are constantly being developed to attract more workers into the care sector.
