Children with disabilities. Disabled children. The terminology seems toswing back and forth depending on the current thinking. For me theformer is more appropriate, as they are children first. As with allchildren, they need positive opportunities to grow and develop and beoffered as many life-enhancing experiences as possible.
When developing any new work we consult with as many groups of childrenand young people as possible in order to ensure that they areappropriate for all.
This means thinking about the accessibility of buildings; what type ofcommunication skills we need to learn; what (small) steps we need totake to make sure that children with disabilities are included.
