It has just been National Adoption Week. You will probably have seen it in the press or on telly. This is the annual campaign that highlights the need for more people to come forward as potential adopters for the 4,000 children in either residential or foster care.
The Government wants to increase the number of children adopted by 40 per cent by next year. This is a tall order, and to try and raise the stakes we are now looking at using different types of media tactics including advertising children on the internet as well as showing real photos and life stories in the national press. We were discussing these tactics in work last week and the majority verdict was that it was generally felt to be in rather poor taste.
