Claire speaks to a man so depressed by management he's decided to quit.

I recently visited my opposite number in another local authority in the name of sharing good practice.

It was a sizzlingly hot day, the holidaymakers thronged through town and we decided to take advantage of the weather and have our meeting in a cafe by the seafront. Around lunchtime the air was split with the smell of cooking onions. The British holiday burger van had arrived.

Just as I was about to start sounding off about the stench and unhealthiness of the burger industry my colleague said: "I'm going to buy one of those." I laughed, "Yeah right, 20 years in social care and you want to be burger van man". My laughter died on my lips as he continued to speak in a quiet but insistent tone.
