Consign this practice to the bin Claire's appalled that children's things are still transported in rubbish bags.

I was talking to a young man recently who had been brought up in thecare system, and who is now living in a homeless young people'sproject.

During our conversation, to my surprise he said: "This is the first timeI've felt settled for years. I've been living here for a year, and I'mgetting my own flat soon. I'll be able to put some roots down." Headded: "It's great to be in one place for a while 'cos when I was incare I was moved 36 times in seven years."

I was shocked by this but his story is not unusual - far from it. Manyyoung people leaving care tell you a similar story, but thankfullynowadays placement stability is improving. His words made me think, though.
