We were in the middle of cooking group when I heard it. It started as muffled giggling, then rose to choking laughter. I knew I was the butt of this laughter, but I didn't realise it was actually about my butt until I heard the word "whale". Two of the girls were beside themselves with mirth. Why? I had bent over to pick up a dropped dishtowel and had exposed more flesh and thong top than was decent. Not a pretty sight.
But the reason I am telling you this is that I learned yet another new phrase that children and young people use. What they were hooting at was - wait for it - my "Whale tail". Yes, that ridiculous T shape that happens when your pants come over the top of your jeans looks a bit like a whale breaking the surface of the ocean. What a great expression, if a bit close to home.
