Claire is proud when children give to charity instead of getting a treat.

We had a little pot of money left in our budget, which we thought wecould use to reward children who had attended our consultation groupduring the year.

They give up their time and energy to tell bosses what they think aboutbeing looked after, and often struggle when they can't see muchchanging. It's one of the things that annoy me about the current "wemust consult or there go those three stars" culture.

So we put the question to the group: "What would you like to do with themoney?" And yet again, they came up trumps.

"It's just been Christmas; we've got enough," said one lad. "What aboutother children like those orphaned in the Pakistan earthquake?" So wedecided to do a "shoebox" project and send boxes full of goodies to thechildren affected by disasters.
