The Youth Justice Board (YJB) monitor selects random incidents for review and to agree any learning points. I tour the units - 48 boys and 16 girls - before the 9.30pm lock-up. If they were at home, many Hassockfield kids would just be getting ready to go out at that time.
Tuesday: Meet the regional manager at Barnardo's, our safeguarding monitor, on development of joint child protection protocols for use here and, hopefully, elsewhere.
Our kids then lead the agenda for our staff/trainee council meeting. It's just like any kitchen table discussion with teenagers: Can we have more shades of nail varnish in the nail bar? (Alright then.) When will the ice cream van be back in? (But it's December!) Can't we lie-in later at weekends? (Sorry, no.)
