I'm really looking forward to the publication of the long-awaited youth green paper, not least because I'm interested to see what happens to the promise of a renewed focus on "things to do and places to go".

Apparently, access to exciting and enjoyable activities that enhance young people's personal, social and educational development will be a key element of the Government's forthcoming proposals.

Let's hope these good intentions make it into the final edit. Despite the popular view that young people have never had it so good, the reality is that many of our neighbourhoods have shamefully few resources for the young. For lots of teenagers growing up today there is just not enough to do.
