I'm being a bit brave this week. I've decided to write about health and safety. It's one of those subjects that can be, well ... how do I put this? Less than exciting?
Important? Definitely. Essential? Of course. Everyone's business? Certainly. But exciting? Not everyone's convinced.
I'm not too sure why this is. I guess it has a lot to do with the image that most of us associate with health and safety: those super-sized policies.
The Encyclopaedia Britannica is a lighter read than some of these tomes. And the detail that these policies can go into can challenge even the most enthusiastic readers among us. In my time I've seen guidelines for youth workers on everything from making toast to preparing a Pot Noodle.
