At last I'm off on my annual holiday. Three days to go - not that I'm counting. Two weeks of fun in the sun. No meetings, no telephone calls, no hassle, no nothing. I can't wait.
But before I finally get to step onto the plane, I have to go though the crazy pre-holiday period. Suddenly it becomes a mission to get everything done so you can leave a clear desk behind you.
You convince yourself that you really can reach the bottom of that to-do list. So you cram in meetings to try and tie up as much as possible and make sure everyone knows that you're off on leave. Trouble is, this just creates more work. People try to squeeze just one more meeting in before you go. Or get you to read just one more report. Or fill in just one more form. If you didn't need a holiday before the pre-holiday period, you will now.
