- It's tough being a teenager, especially when you're trying to lay on a decent 18th birthday bash, explains 17-year-old Alison Moulds.[QQ]She's one of two online youth editors for south east London paper The News Shopper and her most recent column reveals how few venues are willing to host parties for young people because of "scaremongering tales of uncontrollable teen revelries".

"Approaching 18, I long hoped the days of security guards' suspicious shufflings three feet behind me and dirty looks from aged strangers on public transport were a thing of the past," she writes. "But now it seems youth prejudice is determined to put a dampener on prospective celebrations."

It's great to see how far The News Shopper has come. Alison's fellow youth editor is 15-year-old Josh Tate and together they offer a frank and engaging teen's-eye view of the world, putting the paper one step ahead of many local rags when it comes to making an effort to represent young people. It's certainly a welcome change of tack. A few years ago The News Shopper was responsible for another trailblazing journalistic concept - the Shop a Yob campaign.
