An alternative take on last week's media

A new terror is stalking country lanes in Hertfordshire, according to The Watford Observer. Unearthly beings emerge at dusk and are "absolutely invisible", claims a parish councillor who has actually seen them.

It's the dawn of the "hooded children". "Hooded children wearing dark clothes when riding their bikes are scaring residents, who fear they could run them over," says the paper. Some drivers have been "seriously shaken" by the ordeal of nearly hitting young cyclists, the paper reveals in its account of a parish council meeting.

The conclusion is the hooded ones ought to wear reflective clothing. Fair enough. At the same time locals should probably count their blessings. Riding bikes in the gloom is hardly happy slapping or binge drinking.
