On arrival at work I switch on my computer, hoping it has not "gone down" overnight. I'm in luck, it's alive.
My first task is to read my emails, print any that need to be filed or discussed with colleagues, and reply to others. But why have I been sent emails about adult services when I work in a children and families team?
And why have I been told there is a virus in another office several miles away?
Confused, I move on to organising my day, prioritising my work and hoping I can complete at least some of my tasks.
Next, I sort the post and read my correspondence. Four letters need a reply by return of post, three more within the next couple of days. I start the letters and, numerous interruptions later, they are completed and in the post tray.
