I try to work with young people who have missed out on normal education or who have learning and emotional behaviour issues. The subject of dogs is a great leveller and fits in with the citizenship curriculum in teaching responsibility. The Dogs Trust was until recently called the National Canine Defence League.

What's your schedule? I spend a lot of time on the road, going to schools and youth clubs in the Northeast, to do interactive sessions with young people. I don't take dogs with me as it would be stressful for them and could cause allergies in the young people we meet.
