BACK PAGE: And this is what I do - Joyce Ogunjobi, youth librarydevelopment officer, Mitcham

1 min read

How are you involving young people? We have set up a library youth forum, given young people responsibility for creating an events section for their peers on the borough's web site, and launched Merton Sense, a magazine by young people, for young people.

We also have teenagers taking part in The Duke of Edinburgh's Award and have set up homework clubs for 13- to 16-year-olds.

Which agencies do you link up with?

I meet other projects in the area such as refugee groups to encourage them to use the library, and talk to organisations about exhibitions we run for events such as Black History Month. I also meet Community Service Volunteers youth groups, other organisations like Connexions that have contact with young people and speak to parents about job opportunities and apprenticeships for their children.
