Back Page: And this is what I do - Jodi Russell, student activities manager, Southampton City College

1 min read

What does your job involve? A bit of everything, really. I organise activities for students, not just sports-related ones but other sorts too. I've done things such as set up a football team for the college, which is the first one it has had since 1987, and I hope to set up other sports teams as time goes on.

I am also looking at other activities including dance classes, prom committees and so on. Most of the students are under 25, although the college is for 16- to 35-year-olds. Most are keen to get involved in activities.

What is the idea behind running these activities? The thinking behind my role is to enhance the retention of students by offering them something other than lessons to keep them interested in attending the college.
