Who else do you work with? The Colne project was the first Youth Works project to be set up as a 50/50 partnership with Lancashire County Council's Youth & Community Service. I work alongside a full-time worker from the service. We also have part-time workers.

What's a typical day? Admin and planning in the morning, informal education session with a Year 7 pupil from the local school in the afternoon and an evening drop-in youth club-type session.

How did you get the job? I am a turner by trade, but following redundancy I decided to try something different. Without any training it was very difficult to get into youth and community work. I had been involved with a church-based youth club from time to time, which was when I met the workers from the then new Youth Works project in Blackburn. They offered training opportunities in return for volunteering with their project.
