AWARDS: Young Achievers

3 mins read
Stovin Hayter reports on the young people who, last week, were named the first Whitbread Young Achievers.

Among those shortlisted were 16-year-old Kirsty Fowler, who set up an anti-bullying initiative, Emma Scott, 19, who created an animal hospital at the Knoxwood Wildlife Rescue Trust, and Afrasiab Anwar, 23, who began volunteering as a football coach in Burnley last June and decided, when the project was due to close, to take it on himself.

The awards replace the Whitbread Volunteer Action Awards last held 18 months ago, also organised by the Whitbread hotel and leisure group. Young Achievers is supported by the Home Office, the National Centre for Volunteering, CSV and Sport England. l
