Awards: Prize Volunteers

3 mins read
This year's Whitbread Young Achiever Awards recognise the achievements of 16- to 25-year-olds who have made a difference in their local communities. Andy Hillier takes a look at the work of eight of the finalists.

The four winners will be announced today (23 November) at an event hosted by TV presenter June Sarpong at the Vinyl Factory in Soho, central London.

Each winner will receive 2,000 in cash, 250 in leisure vouchers and a package of "money-can't-buy" opportunities. Last year's winners spent a day with the editor of The Guardian, shadowed a government minister, helped produce a BBC science programme and were invited to an international summer school in India.

The prize money, together with a 12-month follow-on support programme, will be given to the winners to help sustain their projects. The winners will be selected from a short list of 12 entries, eight of which are profiled below.
