Among those receiving a knighthood are Al Aynsley-Green, the children's commissioner for England, and Michael Aaronson, former director general of Save the Children.
Tom Jeffery, director-general of the Children, Young People and Families Directorate at the Department for Education and Skills was made a Companion of the Order of the Bath.
More than 30 people were appointed Members of the Order of the British Empire for their work with young people. Among them is Arthur Swift, who has been involved in work at the Salford Lads and Girls Club for nearly 60 years.
Swift said: "I'm very pleased and proud. Things move on, but I think our club is moving on with them."
